Letter from Superintendent Dr. Sala

Dear District Arbor Park 145 Families, Staff, and Community,

I hope you are enjoying the summer with your friends and families. This is an update about our new school year!

Last Friday the CDC issued new guidance for school operations in regard to COVID-19.  These guidelines were immediately adopted by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois State Board of Education.

The guidance brings schools in line with Phase 5 guidance for Illinois and gives local school boards control of mitigation decisions. Consequently, we will resume in person learning five days a week.

One of the major changes is to the school masking mandate.  Masks are no longer required for vaccinated individuals. Masks are still recommended for non-vaccinated individuals.  Masks are still required for all public transportation, including school busses.

The Board of Education and Administration are supportive of continuing to recommend mask usage for non-vaccinated individuals, but we are not mandating universal masking of students and staff, with the exception of transportation, effective immediately.

We will continue our other mitigation strategies of social distancing, and our focus on building cleanliness for the time being. We are still reviewing all the implications of the guidance for the new school year and will update the community. Should conditions change, we will continue to monitor the health of our students and staff and adjust accordingly when needed.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely,
Dr. Andrea Sala
